ISO/IEC 17020 Scope Update — What's Changed for DEG Survey & Inspection

DEG
DEG

In March 2026, DEG Survey & Inspection updated its IANZ accredited scope under ISO/IEC 17020. If you rely on our inspection reports and certificates for regulatory compliance, insurance purposes, or WorkSafe audits, here is what has changed and what it means for you.

What is still in scope — and accredited:
- Cranes Category A (in-service and commissioning)
- Cranes Category C, including scope extension to self-erecting tower cranes
- Pressure equipment inspection (PEI) — limited scope
- Non-destructive testing: VT (visual), UT (ultrasonic), MT (magnetic particle), PT (liquid penetrant)

What has moved or changed:
EWP 6-monthly in-service inspections have been removed from the ISO/IEC 17020 inspection body scope as of March 2026. This work is now carried out under DEG Calibration & Compliance's ISO/IEC 17025 accredited scope. For clients, the practical effect is minimal — the same DEG team does the work, the same IANZ-accredited framework sits behind it — but the accreditation reference on the certificate has changed. If your compliance documentation references the 17020 scope for EWP 6-monthlies, update your records accordingly.

What this does not affect:
Maritime Rules Part 49 work — ships' lifting appliances and loose cargo gear — continues as before. This work operates under DEG's Maritime NZ approval, which is separate from the IANZ accredited scope and has not changed.

The full current accredited scope for DEG Survey & Inspection (Survey NZ (2019) Ltd, Inspection Body No. 82) is published on the IANZ website. We recommend clients who reference our scope in their own quality or compliance documentation check that their records reflect the current version.
