DEAN VAN BUUREN
OWNER & ENGINEERING MANAGER
Dean founded DEG in 1991 in Timaru as Design Engineering and remains the owner and director of the group today. As Engineering Manager, he leads the technical direction of DEG Consulting Engineering, including structural engineering, FEA, producer statements, and forensic and incident investigation work. Dean’s career spans welding inspection, qualification testing, structural design, and the continued development of DEG’s technical credibility and long‑standing client relationships.
RICHARD FRY
GENERAL MANAGER
Richard leads DEG as General Manager, with responsibility for the group across all three divisions, all offices, and the day‑to‑day operation of the business. Reporting to the owner and board, he works with the senior leadership team to set strategic direction and ensure consistent delivery. Richard brings broad experience in general management, operations, and commercial leadership across the engineering, energy, and infrastructure sectors.
HAYDEN BRYANT
OPERATIONS MANAGER — CALIBRATION & COMPLIANCE
Hayden leads DEG’s Calibration & Compliance operations, based out of the Hamilton office. His remit covers laboratory and field‑based calibration, compliance programmes, scheduling, quality systems, and the day‑to‑day delivery of IANZ‑accredited services. Hayden brings a strong operational focus on accuracy, traceability, and audit‑ready delivery.
TIHEMA SAMUELS
OPERATIONS MANAGER — SURVEY & INSPECTION
Tihema leads DEG’s Survey & Inspection operations, based out of Christchurch. He is responsible for inspection delivery across the region, including pressure equipment, cranes, lifting gear, NDT, and weld inspection services supporting manufacturing, processing, port, and fabrication clients. His focus is on safe execution, consistent inspection outcomes, and maintaining the standards expected of an IANZ‑accredited inspection body.
